A LITTLE ABOUT US

The story of More Than A Mom Sourdough

When my daughter was born I struggled with my new identity as a Mom, postpartum anxiety, feeling isolated and alone, at home with a new baby who relied completely on me.

For the previous 8 years I hustled in the world of Federal construction management, that job at that time in my life, felt like my life’s purpose.

My plan was to go back to work full time and enroll my daughter in daycare but there her name sat, waitlist slot #71, after my maternity leave and I felt lost.

The previous year I became friends with Kimberly Jarman, who you’ll see plays a huge part in my story, and continues to have such an amazing impact in my life and business today.

She is a local life coach and she encouraged me to try new things to fill my time, and to create an identity for myself that felt like me, one I could be proud of again.

I dabbled in a variety of interests, and really loved the challenge I felt with making sourdough and the science behind it. From creating my own starter, to reading library books of all kinds of techniques, watching video after video online, I was determined to figure it out and enjoyed the experience!

A little bit of confidence. A lot of sourdough.

Throughout my coaching program I dived deep into figuring out my new identity and what I wanted the future to look like for my family. I learned how to show up for myself, built confidence and clarity, and on my birthday in 2023, as a gift to myself, I registered More Than A Mom as an official business.

THE STORY KEEPS GROWING

From the kitchen to the community

Every day since, I have taken a chance on myself. I participated in multiple different markets & pop ups, and in 2024, was accepted to be a part of weekly markets in the Wheeler District! Participating in the weekly market transformed my vision for the future and inspired me to dream even bigger!

How can I continue to bake fresh bread, make connections within my community, and maximize my time with my daughter? In 2025 I was invited by the Metropolitan Library system to teach a sourdough class and learned that people really wanted to learn how to make their own, that class was PACKED!

Then I had customers ask if I would come to their kitchens and teach them how to bake sourdough in their kitchens. Present day, we’ve taught hundreds of people how to make sourdough, and we’ve come such a long way from those days of me baby wearing my daughter and getting so excited about a single loaf of sourdough turning out beautiful. I know in my heart, we’re just getting started.

Thank you for being here, for supporting us, sharing about us, and enjoying my bakes.

This business is about so much more than the bread. I’m on a mission to spread my story, love for baking sourdough, and to inspire fellow Moms and people in our community.

THE MEANING BEHIND THE NAME

Because You're More Than A Mom, Too

I chose to name my business More Than A Mom because I know how easy it can be to pour everything into your family, make sacrifice after sacrifice and forget to make room for yourself. This business was born from wanting something for myself, a creative outlet, a community, and a reason to step outside of the everyday routine of Motherhood and help me discover who I was now in addition to being a Mom.

That is why I want to create an opportunity for others, a place where you can try something new, laugh with friends, meet others, learn a skill, make something beautiful, and simply enjoy being you.

And if you’re a fellow Mom, you don’t have to choose between being an amazing Mom and having your own identity, you can be both.

A STORY WORTH SHARING

We made the news!

We recently welcomed two local news reporters into our home to share the story behind More Than A Mom Sourdough. From talking about our journey to showing them how to make sourdough from scratch, it was such a fun opportunity to share what this little business is all about.

WHAT MATTERS TO US

The heart behind everything we do

Connection over perfection

We value connection over perfection, experiences over things, and creating space for people to simply enjoy being together.

Keeping things simple

We believe the best things in life are often made around a table.

Rooted in our community

We are passionate about supporting local businesses, celebrating others, creating genuine community, and making memories that last longer than the loaf of bread we make together.

Everyone is welcome here

A total bread newbie

I had never made bread before creating my sourdough starter. Not even a bagged mix!

I never planned to turn sourdough into a business, but I’m so glad I did. Now I get to share my passion with my community!
